Which NDIS Support Is Right for Me?
A starting-point guide for comparing common disability support options. The right support depends on the participant’s needs, goals, plan and the kind of assistance required.
Start with the task, not the service name
NDIS support names can overlap or sound similar. A practical way to begin is to write down what the participant needs help with, how often, where the support is needed and what outcome they want to work towards.
The participant’s plan and funded support categories determine what can be purchased. A provider can explain service delivery, but does not decide what the NDIS will fund.
Common support pathways
In-home support and daily living assistance may suit targeted help with household routines, personal care or everyday tasks. Community participation may suit support to join activities, build confidence and access the community. Transport support may help with agreed journeys connected to the participant’s disability support needs.
SIL is a different home-and-living support for people who need substantial ongoing support at home. STA or respite-related support may be relevant for short stays or temporary breaks, depending on the participant’s circumstances and plan.
Questions to ask before choosing
What tasks do I need help with? How many hours or how often? Do I need support at home, in the community or overnight? Is transport part of the support? Do I need personal care? What worker skills or preferences matter? What does my current plan fund?

Transport and community participation decisions
If the main question is about getting to activities or the support needed while participating, these guides help separate the options.
Frequently asked questions
Can AIC Services tell me what the NDIS will fund?
AIC Services can explain the services it provides, but funding decisions are made through the NDIS. Participants should check their plan and speak with their my NDIS contact, plan manager or support coordinator where relevant.
Can I use more than one type of support?
Yes. Many participants use a combination of supports depending on their plan, goals and changing needs.
What if I am not sure where to start?
Write down the main tasks or situations where support is needed and contact the provider or relevant NDIS contact. You do not need to know the perfect service name before asking questions.
Refine your everyday support needs
If the main question is about help at home, these guides can help separate personal care, household support and different levels of assistance.
Work and therapy are separate support decisions
Employment support is about disability-related barriers to work. Therapy support is clinical and must be delivered by appropriately qualified professionals. Use these guides when either question is part of your support planning.
