Questions to Ask Before Choosing an NDIS Therapy Provider
Choosing a therapy provider should involve more than checking availability. Therapy supports are clinical services, so it is reasonable to ask about qualifications, evidence, goals, communication, reports, fees and how the provider will involve the participant in decisions.
Ask what professional qualification and registration apply
The NDIS says therapy supports must be delivered by qualified allied health professionals who are registered with AHPRA or accredited by the relevant peak body for self-regulated professions. Ask who will actually provide the service and how their qualifications can be verified.
Ask what functional outcome the therapy is targeting
The provider should be able to explain how the therapy relates to everyday function, independence or participation, not only the name of a treatment. Goals and expected outcomes should be understandable to the participant.
Ask how progress will be reviewed and reported
Find out how often goals are reviewed, what information is recorded, what reports may be provided to the participant or NDIA and how the provider will discuss changes if the approach is not working.
Ask how the therapist will work with support workers and family
Where the participant wants coordination, ask what instructions will be provided, what consent is needed, what training is expected and how questions from the support team should be escalated.
Ask about fees, cancellations and service agreement terms
Understand the hourly rate, travel arrangements, cancellation terms, report-writing charges and any other billable activity before services begin. The participant should receive clear information before agreeing to the service.

Frequently asked questions
How can I check whether someone is qualified to deliver therapy?
Ask which professional registration or accreditation applies and verify it through the relevant registration authority or professional body.
Should a therapy provider be able to explain the functional goal?
Yes. The provider should be able to explain what skill or functional outcome the therapy is intended to improve or maintain and how progress will be reviewed.
Does AIC Services’ Therapy & Wellness page mean every AIC support is clinical therapy?
No. Clinical NDIS therapy must be delivered by appropriately qualified allied health professionals. Ask AIC Services what specific support is available and who would deliver any clinical component before proceeding.
