Daily Living Support vs In-Home Support

These terms can overlap. The useful question is not the label alone, but what disability-related tasks the participant needs help with, where the support happens and what goals the support is meant to achieve.

Why the terms can sound similar

Assistance with daily life is an NDIS support category covering everyday disability-related tasks. In-home support is a common service description for support delivered around routines in the participant’s own home.

A provider may use the phrase “in-home support” to describe practical services that are funded from relevant NDIS support categories. The participant should check the actual funded support and service agreement rather than relying on the marketing label.

Daily living assistance

Daily living assistance may include personal care, cooking, cleaning, household routines and other tasks that help the participant live as independently as possible. It can be highly targeted or part of a broader support schedule.

In-home support

In-home support describes the setting and practical delivery of support at home. It can include daily living tasks, personal support, skill-building and agreed household assistance. The exact scope depends on the participant’s plan, needs and service agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Are daily living support and in-home support always different services?

No. They can overlap substantially. What matters is the funded support, the tasks being delivered and the agreed service arrangement.

Can I receive in-home support without SIL?

Yes. A participant may receive targeted assistance with daily life at home without having Supported Independent Living funding.

Which page should I read next?
