Recurring Transport vs Support Worker Transport
Understand the difference between recurring transport funding and transport delivered by a support worker, and how each may fit an NDIS support arrangement.
The quick answer
Both can help a participant get where they need to go, but they are not the same type of support. Recurring transport is an NDIS transport budget for eligible participants, while support-worker transport is practical assistance delivered by a worker as part of an agreed support arrangement.
What recurring transport means
Recurring transport is a separate NDIS support budget for eligible participants who need help getting to and from work, study, community activities, day programs or other social and recreational activities.
It can be used for travel such as taxis, rideshare services or other private travel. Whether it appears in a participant’s plan depends on the participant’s circumstances and NDIS funding decision.
What support-worker transport means
A support worker may help a participant with transport when transport forms part of the participant’s disability support. This can include travelling to appointments, shopping, activities or community participation while the worker is providing agreed support.
The worker’s time, the journey, any support at the destination and any vehicle-related costs should be discussed clearly before the service begins.
The practical difference
Recurring transport is about the participant’s transport budget. Support-worker transport is about a worker delivering disability support that includes travel.
A participant may have one, both or neither, depending on their plan, goals and support arrangements. AIC Services does not decide NDIS funding eligibility and can only confirm whether a requested service is suitable and available.
Questions to clarify before booking support
Ask whether the support is only a journey or whether a worker is also needed before, during or after the destination. Confirm pickup and drop-off details, accessibility needs, timing, the support required at the destination and how the service will be funded.
Clear planning reduces confusion between transport funding and the support worker’s role.

Frequently asked questions
Is recurring transport the same as a support worker driving me?
No. Recurring transport is an NDIS transport budget for eligible participants. A support worker providing transport is a disability support service delivered as part of an agreed support arrangement.
Can a support worker provide transport to an appointment?
A support worker may assist with transport to an appointment when this fits the participant’s goals, plan and agreed support. The worker may also provide practical assistance at the appointment if this has been agreed.
