Supported Independent Living
Support-worker assistance and supervision for daily life in the home. SIL does not pay ordinary rent, groceries or other everyday living costs.
Understand the difference between support in the home, specialist housing and temporary accommodation.
SIL, SDA, ILO and MTA are not interchangeable. They solve different home-and-living needs.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is funding for support workers who help or supervise a participant with day-to-day tasks in their home. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is specialised housing itself for eligible participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Individualised Living Options (ILO) is a person-centred living arrangement designed around how and with whom a participant wants to live. Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) is temporary accommodation used in specific transition circumstances.
A participant may use more than one home-and-living support where each support addresses a different need. The right combination depends on the participant's goals, support needs, living arrangement and current NDIS plan.

AIC Services provides disability support services including Supported Independent Living and Individualised Living Options, along with other approved supports shown on our Services page. SDA is different: it is specialist housing and must be provided through an appropriately registered SDA provider and enrolled SDA dwelling.
If you are comparing SIL, ILO, MTA or other support options, our team can explain the AIC Services supports that may be relevant to your circumstances. Funding and eligibility decisions are made by the NDIA, and housing decisions should be checked against current official NDIS information.
AIC Services has a physical office at 54 Main Road, Moonah TAS 7009. In Victoria, our website describes service delivery areas only and does not imply a physical Victorian office.
NDIS home-and-living rules and terminology can change. Check the official source for the latest position.
