Evening Routine Support With an NDIS Support Worker
Evening support can help a participant finish the day safely and comfortably while keeping their own preferences, habits and independence at the centre of the routine.
What evening support may involve
Depending on need, evening support may include preparing a meal, tidying shared areas, laundry, personal care, changing clothes, organising items for the next day or helping the participant settle into their preferred evening routine.
The exact tasks should be agreed with the participant and fit within the worker’s role and the participant’s funded supports.
Protect choice and privacy
Evening routines can involve very personal tasks. Workers should explain what they are doing, respect boundaries and preferences, provide privacy and allow the participant to make choices about timing and how support is provided.
If particular equipment, transfer techniques or two-worker arrangements are required for safety, these should be clearly documented and followed.
Prepare for tomorrow without taking over
Support can include checking the next day’s appointments, setting out clothing, preparing food, charging devices or organising items the participant wants ready. Where possible, involve the participant so the routine also supports confidence and independence.
