What MTA Funding Covers
Medium Term Accommodation funding is deliberately narrow. It pays for temporary accommodation in an approved transition situation; it does not automatically pay for all living costs or support-worker assistance.
The accommodation cost
Current NDIS guidance says MTA funding covers the cost of the temporary accommodation. It is intended to bridge the period before a participant can move into their longer-term home or approved living arrangement.
Ordinary living costs are separate
Food, internet and electricity are examples of ordinary living costs that are not included in the MTA accommodation payment. Participants should clarify any rent-like charges, meals and personal expenses before agreeing to an arrangement.
Personal care is separate
Personal care supports are not included in the MTA accommodation funding itself. If a participant needs personal care, daily living assistance or other disability supports during the stay, those supports need to be funded and arranged separately through the participant’s plan.
Accessibility and support planning
Before selecting temporary accommodation, check access, mobility, bathroom setup, equipment, transport, communication, medication processes and other disability-related requirements. A temporary property is only useful if the participant can actually use it safely.
Ask for a clear cost breakdown
A written breakdown should distinguish the accommodation component from disability supports and ordinary personal expenses. This helps participants, nominees and plan managers understand what is being charged and why.

No. Current NDIS information states that food is not included in MTA accommodation funding.
Does MTA include support workers?
