NDIS privacy and consent

Sharing Your NDIS Plan With a Provider

Understand consent and choice when sharing NDIS plan information with providers, including what can be shared and how permissions can be changed.

The quick answer

You decide whether to share plan information with a provider and what permissions you give. Current NDIS guidance says consent is required before NDIS plan information is shared with a provider.

You control what is shared

Participants have choice and control over which providers can access plan information. Different providers can be given access to different information depending on their role.

Share what the provider needs

A provider may need enough information to understand the supports they are delivering, relevant goals and practical requirements. Sharing should be proportionate to the service and the participant’s consent.

Consent can be changed

NDIS guidance says participants can change or withdraw consent, including how long consent lasts and what information a provider can access.

Separate plan access from everyday service information

Even where a provider does not need broad access to the NDIS plan, they may still need practical information to deliver safe support, such as communication preferences, relevant risks, routines and emergency contacts. Discuss what is necessary and how it will be protected.

Important: This AIC Services guide is general information, not an NDIS funding decision, clinical advice or legal advice. Participants should check their current plan and official NDIS information for their circumstances.
